The new longships of Viking River Cruises have a variety of accommodations to suit the needs of most travelers.  What we won’t find are cabins that can accommodate 3, 4 or 5 guests; Viking is looking for couples.  Solo travelers are OK, but couples are the line’s main focus.  What we will find are nicely appointed staterooms designed by the same team that did the new ships for luxury cruise line Seabourn. The Viking longships used for Christmas Markets sailing, have 8 cabin categories.  Let’s take a look at each.

Categories E and F Standard Stateroom

  • This is what we had on our Viking River Cruises summertime Portraits of Southern France itinerary and it was just perfect.  Two separate rooms with a pocket door between them made it easy for me to work while Lisa was sleeping, reading or doing something else.

Category ES Explorer Suites
This is what I had on our Grand European Tour itinerary, a 15-day Viking river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam.  Each ship features two of these Explorer Suites, actuallongship_es_295x250_tcm43-21099 two-room accommodations with our favorite aft-facing view.

Difficult to show in photos, floor to ceiling walls of windows bring some amazing river views. An in-room coffee maker, stocked refrigerator and fabulous bath products are a bonus too.
