Smooth Sailing Awaits On Harmony Of Seas

  • A medical evacuation near Cancun required the ship to backtrack and deviate from its original course.
  • Severe headwinds and rough seas prevented the vessel from maintaining its top cruising speed to regain lost time.
  • Embarkation for the February 1 sailing was delayed by nearly four hours to allow for terminal processing.
  • The upcoming Western Caribbean itinerary remains unchanged despite the later departure from the Port of Galveston

Royal Caribbean International has informed passengers of a multi-hour delay for the Harmony of the Seas as it returns to its homeport in Galveston, Texas. The arrival, originally scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, was pushed back due to an emergency medical evacuation that occurred during the final leg of the previous seven-night Western Caribbean voyage. To facilitate the transfer of an individual requiring urgent care, the Oasis-class vessel was required to backtrack significantly toward the coast of Cancun to coordinate with another vessel.

Following the successful evacuation, the ship encountered additional challenges while attempting to make up for the lost time. Strong headwinds, reported to be as high as 55 knots, coupled with rough sea conditions and waves reaching twelve feet, significantly impeded the vessel’s progress. Despite the ship’s capability to reach higher speeds, these environmental factors limited its transit toward Texas, resulting in a delayed docking time at Cruise Terminal 10.

As a consequence of the late arrival, Royal Caribbean has shifted the embarkation window for the subsequent sailing by approximately three and a half to four hours. Guests have been requested to adjust their arrival times accordingly, with the final boarding window closing at 5 p.m. and the scheduled departure now set for 6 p.m. rather than the typical 3 p.m. slot. The cruise line noted that the terminal would not be open for early arrivals to ensure that debarking passengers from the previous cruise have sufficient time to clear customs and vacate the area. While the departure from Galveston is delayed, the cruise line currently anticipates no changes to the planned itinerary, which includes visits to Roatan, Costa Maya, and Cozumel.
