Seen While Cruising: Bikes Around The World

When we travel, adventures take us to new lands where much of what we experience might be unfamiliar.  Focusing on common elements seen around the world can bring a sense of familiarity that is hard to deny.  In our Windows Of The World gallery, we got very basic.  After all, where in the world might we travel that there are not windows?  In Doors Of  The World we touched on how travel can open many doors, some with direct access to our soul.  Be caught breathless at the wonder of springtime in Vienna or Christmas in Budapest and a growth spurt not experienced since our teen years happens, inside.  Bicycles too each have a unique character and can mean anything from just a way to get around town to a lifetime quality travel experience.

“Traveling is not just seeing the new; it is also leaving behind. Not just opening doors; also closing them behind you, never to return. But the place you have left forever is always there for you to see whenever you shut your eyes.” Jan Myrdal

If your morning routine includes time on a stationary bike at the same gym every day, try doing that on a cruise ship, with a panoramic view of the ocean replacing what you normally see.  The change of scenery can bring new life and commitment to a tired exercise regime.  In a Gadling post titled Cyclists Train Like Locals In Italy, Then Eat Well, I wrote of a tour from Italiaoutdoors that takes cyclists on a six-night bike tour into the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains in northern Italy, surely a different scene than biking around their hometown.

Bicycles are another common element of travel that we can feel comfortable with, regardless of where we are in the world, and the subject of today’s Seen While Cruising gallery.  They are also the subject of a new photo display platform we will be using that allows larger, more flexible image posting than any we have tried so far.  Click here to take a look at more Bikes Around The World
