Key West, Florida is a popular stop on cruise line itineraries and one we have visited several times.  Our first introduction to Key West came via Carnival Fascination, then sailing from Miami.  It was just before the tragic events of 9/11/2001 and much has changed in the world since that time.  But Key West has remained basically the same;  a nice place to visit with great people and wonderful food.  This infographic from Marriott highlights a number popular attractions in Key West, making the destination worthy of a visit by ship if not a land vacation allowing more time to take it all in.

1. Key West Aquarium – The first of its kind to use an “open air concept” (using natural light to illuminate the tanks), the Key West Aquarium is a place to explore aquatic life and cool off when the days get hot.

3. Mel Fisher Maritime Museum – Founded to share recovered treasures with the world, the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum boasts an extensive collection of artifacts and information from various shipwrecks in the 17th and 18th centuries.

4. Truman Little White House – Initially serving as the command headquarters for the Navy in early American wars, the Truman Little White House became the Winter White House for Harry S. Truman in 1946. This museum now acts as a living historical homage to Key West and the active role it plays with the government.

5. West Martello Tower – One of the only remaining Civil War era structures, West Martello Tower is preserved by the Key West Garden Club and consists of gorgeous botanical gardens that are free and open to the public.

6. Museum of Art & History – Also known as the “Custom House”, the Key West Museum of Art & History is comprised of historical artifacts and art exhibits detailing the history of Key West.

7. Key West Butterfly Conservatory – A stroll through the tropical paradise of the Key West Butterfly Conservatory will calm your senses and whisk you away to a beautiful tropical oasis with waterfalls, lush tropical vegetation and hundreds of colorful butterflies.

8. Dog Beach – Bring Fido to bask in the sun and hang-10 at Dog Beach. With dogs welcome, this is a popular spot for both locals and those traveling with pets. Be sure to keep an eye on Fido as the beach is a bit rocky in spots.
