Abercrombie & Kent Connections Define Luxury Differently

Abercrombie & Kent Connections Group Journeys offer a travel experience that takes an existing travel product, examines it, then layers A&K signature luxury on top in a variety of ways, creating something truly unique.  We saw that approach in action last year, sailing Luftner Cruises Amadeus Brilliant on a river cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest.  The standard fare on that ship would have made for wonderful travel memories, as most river cruises do.  Stop right there.  Call it a win. Fly back home with a brain full of wonder.  But the Abercrombie & Kent element sends the experience soaring, adding signature elements that define luxury differently. So popular has been the Connections program, that A&K has added some interesting new itineraries this year and we’ll get into those momentarily.  First, let’s qualify what it is A&K brings to the table, making what they do worthy of your consideration.

Sofitel Legend Ams - 67

If the word ‘luxury’ brings thoughts of 5 star hotels, private jets, exotic places and expensive things to mind, that would be the old definition of the word. A&K plays in that world too and has a superior command of all those elements.  Unique to the Connections product,  Abercrombie & Kent has elevated the entire experience, defining ‘luxury’ under the broad umbrella of bona fide small group travel that enables one-on-one connections at destinations visited.

“I’ve tried to personalize the trip, … It’s me taking guests to my favorite places and meeting some of my favorite people. It’s not just ‘here’s a place and here’s the itinerary.”- Geoffrey Kent, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abercrombie & Kent.

A&K  does that by paying attention to detail like you have never seen before and having one of their own guides with those small groups, every step of the way.  For example,  A&K defines luxury with a standard of two seats for every guest on a motorcoach to allow plenty of room.  If something does not happen as planned, the support of over 50 A&K offices around the world is there to rely on…by the A&K guide; guests are never bothered with such details.

Focusing microscopically on the destinations visited, Abercrombie & Kent hosts no more than 24 guests in their groups and include overnights at hotels in the heart of amazing places before and after cruising to explore key European cities. That’s in addition to what they call Onshore Connections; exclusive experiences only available to A&K guests.

Rudesheim - 009

On the rivers of the world, Abercrombie & Kent has some unique offerings for 2015.  Let’s look at three and A&K’s description of them which highlights the A&K Advantage, an experience that elevates visiting any given place around the world.

World War II on the Rhine: 70 Years After Victory – Timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, this nine-night program visits historical WWII sites. Guests will travel with esteemed resident A&K Tour Director, Dr. James McKenzie-Hall, a noted European art historian and lecturer.

The A&K Advantage: During one day, cruise guests will have an A&K exclusive tour of the once war-ravaged Cologne, visiting its restored Gothic cathedral and a former Gestapo prison, and admire Roonstrasse Synagogue, the only Jewish house of prayer rebuilt here after the war ended.

 Miltenberg - 92

Paris, Burgundy and a South of France Cruise – During this 11-day trip, guests will experience Paris and Beaune, before a seven-night cruise through the south of France.

The A&K Advantage: Guests will have an A&K-exclusive excursion, including the Cistercian Abbey of Sénanque, Saint Paul-de-Mausole and the Roman amphitheater in Arles.

Nuremburg Art Bunker - 80

The A&K Advantage: On an A&K-exclusive expedition to Nuremberg, Germany, guests will privately tour a World War II art bunker. We did this on our sailing with A&K last year and it was truly a phenomenal experience.  See our account of this interesting tour.

Amadeus Briliant - 46

On The River- This year, Abercrombie & Kent Connections will be sailing again with Luftner Cruises on Amadeus Silver II, the new and second 135m vessel in the Amadeus fleet. As the flagship of the Amadeus fleet,  Amadeus Silver II cabins are designed with more of a premium focus than those we experienced on Amadeus Brilliant.  By reducing the standard number of cabins from 90 to 84, the new design brings larger guest accommodations and public spaces.

…and that’s just on the river.

Abercrombie & Kent makes makes connections with an expanded portfolio of journeys in 2015 featuring even more great destinations.  19 new journeys connect with destinations including Cuba, Amsterdam, Sri Lanka and Tuscany.  A&K is also offering a multi-generational travel product with new Family Journeys, created by experts specifically for families, with fun and enriching activities and a range of exciting destinations to choose from.  We will surely have more on these unique travel products, now in their third year.
