Washington Dulles International Airport is undergoing a landmark transformation backed by more than $20 billion in capital investments. Developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation, the multi-year project will revitalize the nation’s capital gateway, adding and upgrading over 5 million square feet of space while preserving Eero Saarinen’s iconic Main Terminal architecture.

The comprehensive plan introduces state-of-the-art check-in areas, streamlined security checkpoints, and modern concourses, including a full replacement of the current C/D Concourse. Travelers will benefit from expanded gate areas with modern amenities, upgraded baggage handling systems, and brand-new United Club and United Polaris lounge spaces. Infrastructure improvements will enhance overall connectivity by retiring the traditional mobile lounge vehicles in favor of expanded AeroTrain service and new central walking tunnels, alongside direct access to a new U.S. Customs facility.

Financed primarily through municipal bonds, this project significantly expands upon original master planning to support regional economic growth, create local jobs, and position Dulles as a world-class travel hub. Initial milestones are already taking shape, with the opening of the new 14-gate Concourse E scheduled to welcome travelers later this year.
