Viking Restarts Epic Med Cruises

Viking cruises resumed operations in the Mediterranean recently as Viking Sea and Viking Venus began sailing from the Maltese city of Valletta. Part of Viking’s Welcome Back collection for vaccinated guests, the ships will sail three new itineraries ranging from 11 to 21 days long.

“We are delighted to be back in the Mediterranean and to be homeporting in Valletta. On behalf of the entire Viking family, we thank the government of Malta for its support and partnership in developing these fantastic new voyages”

Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking, from on board Viking Sea in Valletta

The new voyages include:

To make it easy, Viking has an exclusive partnership with Lufthansa to offer non-stop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to Malta.

It all came about as the Maltese Government eased rules for the arrival of international travelers last month, allowing fully vaccinated Americans with CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Cards to arrive in the country. Additional fuel for that effort comes from CDC easing of travel recommendations ranking Malta as “Level 1” or the lowest for risk of COVID-19.

Here are more details on those specific voyages, in Viking’s own words:
