TSA & CLEAR Have A Problem

CLEAR, the expedited security system allowing travelers to skip ID verification, faced a security incident last July when a man with a false identity passed through CLEAR lines at Reagan National Airport with ammunition.

The incident led to a dispute between the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and CLEAR, with the TSA now questioning nearly 49,000 CLEAR users whose photos did not match their IDs. CLEAR defends its operations, stating that new members with unclear photos undergo manual verification by two employees.

While the TSA has delayed its plan to screen all CLEAR members traditionally, the ongoing dispute may impact CLEAR’s ability to expedite airport security processes in the future.
