Japan earned the top spot by excelling in all key categories, offering affordable daily meals and an exceptionally efficient public transportation network. The country is also recognized for its strong culture of recycling and a thriving second-hand market, which aligns with the circular economy values held by many young travelers. Estonia followed closely, noted for having the highest environmental performance score in the study. This translates to cleaner urban environments and highly efficient infrastructure, providing a high-quality experience at a manageable cost for those looking to explore Europe’s hidden gems.

For travelers focused on mobility and low-carbon transit, Luxembourg stands out as the only country offering free public transportation nationwide. Other Eastern European destinations like Slovakia and Poland were also highlighted for their incredibly low transit and dining costs. Additionally, the research suggested that travelers from major hubs like New York can minimize their carbon footprint by choosing closer destinations like Ireland or Portugal. By combining data on ecological performance with real-world travel expenses, this study provides a practical roadmap for the next generation of mindful global citizens.
