Sea Cloud Adds Maiden Call In Hamburg

Germany’s youngest windjammer will set course for Hamburg for the first time.  Coming from London, the new Sea Cloud Spirit will moor in the center of the Hanseatic city at around 6 p.m. on June 16. The 138-meter, three-masted full-rigged cruise ship is Sea Cloud‘s third luxury tall ship and was commissioned six months ago. In the evening guests will experience a classical music concert by the NDR Orchestra in Hamburg’s world-class concert hall, the Elbphilharmonie.

For Sea Cloud Spirit’s first voyage to the Elbe metropolis, the Hamburg based shipping company has put together a program that combines the sailing experience on a traditional windjammer with classical cultural enjoyment.

The premiere voyage will take the three-master from London via Cowes/Isle of Wight, Ostend and Antwerp. During the voyage, the lounge of the tall ship will be transformed into a concert hall. In cooperation with the grand piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons (Hamburg/New York), the pianists Arash Rokni and Cunmo Yin, two outstanding artists from the Steinway Prizewinner Concerts Network, will give performances on board.

Experience the most impressive harbor entrance from on board

After an extended day of sailing on the North Sea, the impressive journey upstream to Hamburg begins in the Elbe estuary off Cuxhaven on the morning of June 16th. The last stretch up the stream into the city of Hamburg is considered one of the most beautiful harbor entrances in the world.

While a fireboat, harbor ships and numerous pleasure boats accompany the newcomer, guests can enjoy the unique perspective from the deck with a glass of champagne in hand.

Classical music enjoyment in the Great Hall of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall

Guests on the premiere voyage will then be invited to an evening of concerts in the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie. Under the direction of its conductor Herbert Blomstedt the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will perform works by Mozart and Bruckner.

Travel in a small circle – committed to responsible tourism

Sea Cloud Spirit is the modern interpretation of the Sea Cloud, built in Kiel in 1931. Sea Cloud Cruises has been setting standards in luxury sea travel for around 40 years. Like the legendary original and the Sea Cloud II, which entered service in 2001, the new build is distinguished by its private yacht character. All three ships are operated according to the principle of responsible tourism and are deliberately designed for a small circle of travelers. Sea Cloud Spirit, built in Vigo, Spain, can accommodate a maximum of 136 guests.

After four Baltic voyages and two shorter trips, culinary voyage to the Mediterranean

After the first call, Sea Cloud Spirit will sail four extended Baltic Sea voyages featuring the Nordic capitals. She will then depart from Hamburg for two shorter cruises on the North Sea and to Sylt. The return voyage from Hamburg to the Mediterranean begins on August 22.
