National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is significantly expanding its European river cruise offerings, introducing a second chartered ship in 2027 to meet demand and extend the sailing season. The company is collaborating with Transcend Cruises, chartering the ships Connect and Evolve for these voyages.

The expansion will begin in 2026 with the 120-passenger ship Connect sailing exclusively on the Rhine River. This modern vessel is designed to provide an intimate, luxurious setting and a focus on deep exploration, encouraging guests to connect meaningfully with the destinations. According to CEO Natalya Leahy, the cruises aim to offer an unhurried travel experience, allowing passengers to fully immerse themselves in local cultures and historic riverside landscapes.

In 2027, the sister ship Evolve will join the European fleet. While it will sail during the spring and summer alongside Connect, its main addition is the introduction of the brand’s first winter river cruises. Evolve will feature three Christmas market cruises and one holiday voyage, offering travelers a seasonal escape to enchanting towns like Cologne, Strasbourg, and Vienna, where they can experience festive holiday markets and local traditions.

This European river cruise program builds on the company’s existing global river fleet, which includes voyages on the Brahmaputra River in India, the Mekong River in Vietnam, and the Nile River in Egypt. The overall goal of the river journeys is to reframe the experience of travel by prioritizing intentional, culturally rich exploration led by expert staff.
