National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has officially expanded its hallmark expedition travel model onto the historic waterways of Europe. The co-brand launched its inaugural European river sailing aboard the chartered, newly constructed 120-passenger river vessel Transcend Connect, referred to simply as Connect. Named earlier this month at the Den Breejen shipyard in the Netherlands, the purpose-built ship marks the beginning of an exciting regional expansion that brings world-class storytelling and destination expertise to continental rivers.

The debut voyage, titled Holland and Belgium: Medieval History and Scenic Waterways, departed on August 15, taking travelers through the Rhine and picturesque regional waterways with cultural stops in historic centers like Antwerp and Delft. Guests explore the region’s rich art legacy, Jewish heritage, and local culinary traditions through carefully curated private tours and exclusive tastings.
Reflecting the brand’s renowned educational focus, every journey is led by an experienced expedition leader, knowledgeable field staff, and a dedicated National Geographic expedition expert. This high-touch operational framework transforms classic river cruising into a deeply engaging, all-inclusive discovery experience that connects travelers directly with regional historians, naturalists, and local artisans.
The river program will continue to grow in September with the launch of the Rhine Rivers: Castles, Culture and Culinary Delights itinerary, exploring Germany’s scenic Rhine Gorge and Alsace towns like Strasbourg and Colmar. Looking ahead to 2027, the company plans to introduce a second newbuild vessel, Evolve, which will operate festive Christmas market itineraries and effectively double the brand’s European river footprint.
