- MSC breaks ground on new private island Sandy Cay
- Scheduled for official opening in the year 2028
- Positioned adjacent to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve
- Dedicated to luxury, wellness, and intimate relaxation spaces
MSC Group’s Cruise Division is expanding its footprint in the Caribbean with the official groundbreaking ceremony for Sandy Cay, a luxurious new private island destination in The Bahamas. Scheduled to open in 2028, this pristine island is situated adjacent to the company’s existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. While Ocean Cay offers an activity-rich eco-experience, Sandy Cay is thoughtfully designed to provide a more intimate, elevated escape focused heavily on wellness, relaxation, private retreats, and serene natural surroundings.

The new development will serve guests sailing with both MSC Cruises and its luxury sister brand, Explora Journeys, giving travelers two distinct private island experiences right next to each other. Alongside construction on Sandy Cay, MSC is also planning a series of exciting enhancements at Ocean Cay, including new dining concepts, family and adult-exclusive beaches, and expanded marine-conservation programs. These strategic investments highlight the cruise line’s long-term commitment to enhancing the onshore vacation experience while celebrating the breathtaking natural beauty of The Bahamas.
