Holland America First To Win International Seafood Certifications

Holland America Line is setting a new standard for sustainable seafood on cruise lines by becoming the first to earn certifications from both the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). These certifications guarantee that the seafood served on their ships is responsibly sourced, meeting the strictest global standards for both wild-caught and farmed fish. This achievement reflects Holland America’s commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable seafood options for their guests while protecting the health of the oceans.

Marine Stewardship Council | Aquaculture Stewardship Council
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) are two leading organizations promoting sustainable seafood practices for wild-caught and farmed fish, respectively. By earning certifications from both, Holland America Line demonstrates a strong commitment to environmentally responsible fishing and aquaculture. This aligns with growing consumer demand for sustainable seafood and helps ensure future generations have access to responsibly sourced fish.

Onboard Dining and Guest Experience
Starting in May 2024, all Holland America Line ships will gradually introduce a wider variety of sustainable seafood sourced from nine regions globally. This follows their achievement of certifications from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). Diners can expect MSC and ASC logos on menus next to dishes featuring sustainable fish like salmon, haddock, tuna, and seabass. While not all seafood is currently certified, Holland America Line is working to expand their sustainable offerings.

Global Fresh Fish Program
Holland America Line is taking their commitment to fresh, sustainable seafood to new heights. Their Global Fresh Fish Program sources over 80 varieties of fish from 60 ports, offering regional specialties on board within 48 hours of catching. This achievement comes on the heels of becoming the first cruise line to serve only sustainable, traceable Alaskan seafood, further solidifying their focus on responsible fishing practices.
