Celebrity Edge Highlights, Detailed

Celebrity Cruises new Celebrity Edge has a number of unique features found on no other ship.  Stars of the show are solid wins for Celebrity Cruises. Together, they provide a glimpse into the future of the premium cruise line. Infinite Balconies seem to go on forever.  Twin custom launches promise a luxurious trip from ship to shore. The new Magic Carpet, private plunge pools, plentiful two deck high outward facing elements connect with the sea.  Live preview complete, let’s dig deeper with that first- hand knowledge and reader questions sprinkled in here and there.

Details introduce the accommodations and are direct from Celebrity Cruises, representing the expectation of each individual option. Like other cruise lines, all staterooms have common features that appear shipwide.

Edge Staterooms With Infinite Verandah
If a picture is worth a thousand words, the value of a good video roundup on any complicated topic is much greater.  Such is the case with Celebrity Cruises new Celebrity Edge.  Twenty-six different categories are offered. They range from a respectable solo stateroom to opulent suites you might never want to leave.  This video is a great place to start. Watch it all the way through for a very good overall understanding of offerings.

To know about Infinite Verandah’s

  • The term ‘verandah’ fits.  This is not a balcony per se.
  • There far less air movement when compared to standard balcony staterooms.
  • There is no divider between balconies to be opened.
  • On either side is a solid wall.
  • Above is the same ceiling as in the stateroom, because it really is part of the stateroom.
  • To say its a big Oceanview with a big window that opens would be accurate although incomplete.
  • You will probably say “I opened the window” as opposed to “I deployed the verandah”.  It is about right here when you might ask yourself “So have I been fooled into believing (and paying for) what really amounts to a fancy Oceanview?  Sorta.
  • There will be no crew coming by to wash down all the Infinite verandahs like when they do that on other ships.  Housekeeping has that space, not decks
  • There is no curtain.  Good news to fans of sleeping soundly. They are pitch black dark with the roll down shade in place eliminating pesky light that finds its way through cracks.
  • You will not sneak out to balcony in the morning, allowing your late-sleeping cabin mate to slumber.  The shade takes a while to go up and down. Complicating matters, there is no curtain.
  • A nod to safety, the bridge can flip a switch and lock all verandah’s shut, Handy in rough seas and high winds.
  • It is really quiet in there with the window shut.  This example of why I don’t do video tells the tale.  On the day we sailed, Celebrity Cruises had a helicopter circling the ship most of the day, taking photos and video. Really loud with the window open, the sound level drops to almost nothing shut.  Sort of like inward-facing Boardwalk and Central Park Balconies on Royal Caribbean Oasis-class.  Quiet.

Celebrity Edge Highlights: Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship Review (2018)– CruiseRadio

Magic Carpet
The world’s first cantilevered, floating platform that rises 13 stories above sea level, it’s designed with plush seating, a full bar, and space for live music. Depending on the positioning, its function changes. At the very top of the ship, the Magic Carpet becomes a venue where we host mouthwatering experiences such as Dinner on the Edge. Down to Deck 14, the Magic Carpet becomes a stunning extension of the main pool area, while on Deck 5, it serves as an open-air dining experience. At the bottom on Deck 2, the Magic Carpet becomes an extension of the Destination Gateway.

Very quickly, we discover that lifeboats are not used for tender operation. Instead, two custom luxury launches (think motorcoach but on the water) do that.

To know about the Magic Carpet

  • It is not an elevator or a ride.
  • The only going ashore traffic related  to the Magic Carpet is as part of the Destination Gateway
  • At sea, the Magic Carpet is locked up on Deck 14 where it is a restaurant
  • In Port, the Magic Carpet is at Destination Gateway level as a lounge and bar.
  • Passengers pass through the Magic Carpet to board one of two custom launches
  • Celebrity Edge ‘port side’ really means it.  There is not another Magic Carpet on the other side.
  • The color is not Lifeboat Orange.  The color is Tangerine.
  • This is hard to miss in port.  The iconic Celebrity X now has a more subdued, sideways positioning on the ship.

On the Resort Deck you’ll find one of the most popular spots on every Celebrity Ship—the adults-only Solarium. Celebrity Edge continues the tradition of offering a covered pool area where adults can unwind in modern luxury style. The Solarium now features a 3-dimensional art wall that represents the beautiful colors and movement of the ocean. It’s the perfect complement to the serene atmosphere where you can restore both your tan and your sanity.

Resort Deck
The Resort Deck offers endless ways to enjoy the outdoors and connect with the sea. It includes everything from an asymmetrical outward-facing pool deck to a jogging track that winds up, down, and around the new Rooftop Garden—a living urban playscape inspired by childhood playgrounds. Collectively, the Resort Deck is unlike any other outdoor space at sea. Or anywhere else on earth.

Pool Deck
The outward-facing, terraced Pool Deck is a stunning asymmetrical space that makes ocean views the focal point. At the center is a 25-yard lap pool featuring in-pool loungers. Positioned above the Pool Bar is an ever-changing mirror installation along with unique tree sculptures that add an air of whimsy. Another addition to the pool deck are two striking, two-story martini Jacuzzis, while just off the pool deck are the outward-facing, private cabanas.

Edge Launches
With Edge Class, we wanted every aspect to be a departure from traditional thinking about cruising, even when it came to taking you from ship to shore. Introducing the industry-leading Edge Launches℠, newly reimagined for an improved tender experience. Featuring bucket seats, air conditioning, large windows for stunning sea-level views, and more space, Edge Launches are designed to get you to your destination in modern luxury style.

These two vessels are like gigantic lifeboats or perhaps like a top quality tender operation might use.  Actually, they remind me of the ferries used in Europe for short trips across rivers where there might otherwise be a bridge.
