For many travelers who think “cruise” , the next thought is “Caribbean“, and rightfully so;  the aqua blue waters of the Caribbean host more North American cruise travelers than any other place on Earth.  Sailing throughout the Caribbean on a variety of cruise lines, diverse itineraries, ships of all sizes and at different times of the year, there is no lack of options for cruise travelers.  Once there, many interact with island natives, go ashore on a seemingly endless number of organized tours or simply walk of their ship for a day of exploring on their own.

It’s a climate that hosts bright-colored flowers, lush green foliage, aqua blue water and majestic cruise ships. Bright and flourishing, these flora residents of the Caribbean are what keeps travelers returning year after year.

From palm trees to Plumerias, Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, Red Ginger and Orchids, the Caribbean offers an artists palette of color to fill the viewfinder of any camera.

What we refer to as ‘the Caribbean’ is actually a geographic region that consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands and the surrounding coasts. Made up of more than 700 islands, islets, reefs, and cays, the islands of the Caribbean form island arcs that define the eastern and northern edges of the Caribbean Sea. 

The beautiful Caribbean islands, per se, are made up of the Greater Antilles to the the north and the Lesser Antilles to the south and east and are part of the larger West Indies grouping, which also includes the Lucayan Archipelago (which includes the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands) north of the Greater Antilles and Caribbean Sea.  As far as cruise travelers are concerned, the Caribbean also include the mainland countries of Belize, Guyana, and Suriname.

Technically a subregion of North America, the beautiful Caribbean is organized into 30 territories including sovereign states, overseas departments, and dependencies.
