25 Top Luxury Travel Destinations By Land Or Sea

A recent survey by luxury travel website, LuxuryHotelsGuides.com found Paris the number one place to visit on the planet by luxury travelers.  Dubai, New York, London, and Singapore round out the top 5 destinations for luxury travelers according to the survey.  Interestingly, these results come from a survey not intended exclusively for cruise travelers.  Actually, visiting these places by ship is not mentioned.  Still, all these 25 top travel destinations are indeed accessible by ocean and/or river cruising.  Let’s take a look.

The top 25 luxury travel destinations for 2017 are as follows;

The survey is sourced on data from over 3 million visitors in 2017 (see methodology). The methodology combines both the overall popularity of each destination (sourced from 3 million+ visitors to the LuxuryHotelsGuides.com website in 2017) with the average transaction amount each traveler spends on their hotel. Results weighted towards popularity (60%), then average booking amount (40%). The higher the average spend per destination and the more visitors, the higher the destination appears.

Besides international destinations like Dubai, another city in the UAE, Abu Dhabi also made the list. The city has recently opened the Louvre and has a range of high-end resorts and attractions under development.  The United States was not left out of the results. Overall, three destinations in the U.S. made the list: New York, Hawaii, and Florida. Interestingly,  two destinations in Spain (Majorca and Barcelona) were featured. London was the only UK city to be included.

Maldives and the Bahamas are also featured in the top 25 mainly due to their high average visitor hotel spend.
