Viking Floats Out Their Latest Fabulous New Ship

Viking is celebrating a truly exciting milestone as its newest ocean ship, the Viking Mira, has officially “floated out” at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. This significant event means the ship has touched water for the very first time, moving into the final and thrilling stages of its construction. The Viking Mira, classified as an elegant small ship, boasts an impressive 54,300 tons and features 499 inviting staterooms, ready to welcome 998 guests aboard for remarkable journeys.

Set to embark on her maiden voyages in spring 2026, her inaugural season will explore the beautiful itineraries of the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, promising unforgettable adventures for curious travelers.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, expressed immense pride in this achievement, highlighting Viking’s commitment to creating the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships in partnership with Fincantieri. The traditional float out ceremony involved a ceremonial cord cutting, allowing water to gracefully fill the building dock over a two-day process, after which the Viking Mira will move to an outfitting dock for its exquisite interior completion.

Viking’s dedication to “The Thinking Person™” continues to resonate strongly with guests, earning them prestigious “World’s Best” accolades from both Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler across their river, ocean, and expedition categories. This ongoing recognition underscores Viking’s unparalleled success in delivering enriching, destination-focused journeys that truly captivate and inspire.
