Türkiye’s cruise tourism sector demonstrated substantial growth in 2024, achieving its highest figures in 12 years. By the end of August, the country had received nearly 1.5 million cruise passengers. This increase represents a notable resurgence for the industry, evidenced by a 17% rise in cruise ship calls, totaling 878 compared to 753 in the previous year. The overall number of passengers grew by 18% compared to last year and more than 50% compared to 2023.

August was a record-breaking month for the sector, with 357,646 passengers arriving, setting a new high for the month. This upward trend positions Türkiye to likely surpass its 600,000-passenger target, projecting a 130% increase year-over-year. The success solidifies Türkiye’s standing as a major cruise destination in the Mediterranean.

The expansion of cruise destinations contributes to this growth, with new ports like Çanakkale, Sinop, Trabzon, Samsun, and Marmaris joining established hubs such as Kuşadası and İstanbul. This diversification offers travelers a wider range of itineraries and benefits local economies by bringing tourism dollars to previously less-visited areas. The surge in arrivals increases demand for local services, including accommodation, transport, dining, and excursions, providing a significant boost to tourism and local businesses across the involved regions. For travelers, this growth translates into more flexible options, destinations, and opportunities to explore the country’s rich history and culture.
