The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is actively working to elevate Sogod Bay, located in Southern Leyte, as a premier global destination for scuba diving. This strategic push was highlighted by the region’s participation in the Salon de la Plongée 2026, a major international diving exhibition held in Paris from January 8 to 11. By showcasing the area’s marine offerings at this event, the DOT aims to broaden its reach within the international dive community and increase the number of foreign visitors to the Eastern Visayas region.

Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes emphasized that this international exposure is a key component of the department’s goal to expand its market share and attract more dive enthusiasts. The 2026 exhibition marks the second time the region has participated in this specific expo, reflecting a consistent effort to position Southern Leyte as a significant player in the global dive market. The initiative is not only about increasing tourist numbers but also underscores a commitment to developing sustainable and high-quality tourism within the country’s diverse marine ecosystem.

To provide potential visitors with practical insights, the DOT Philippines Pavilion featured local stakeholders, including representatives from Sogod Bay Scuba Resort and Peter’s Dive Resort. these experts engaged directly with attendees to share detailed information regarding the bay’s specific underwater attractions and biodiversity. Following the successful engagement in Paris, tourism officials are optimistic that the increased visibility will lead to a rise in international arrivals. Ultimately, the government seeks to establish Sogod Bay as a top-tier dive hotspot, further diversifying the Philippines’ reputation as a leading destination for underwater adventure.
