National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions is set to significantly expand its Alaska program starting in 2027 to accommodate growing traveler demand. The company will charter the vessel Greg Mortimer for a three-year period, allowing for the introduction of new itineraries. This expansion coincides with the final farewell season of two long-serving ships, the National Geographic Sea Bird and the National Geographic Sea Lion, which will conclude their service in 2026.

According to Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions, the introduction of a new ship is a response to increasing demand for their Alaska voyages, enabling the brand to welcome more explorers and offer fresh exploration routes. The Greg Mortimer is purpose-built for navigating remote environments. A key feature of the vessel is the Ulstein X-BOW, designed to enhance stability and passenger comfort, particularly in rough waters.

The ship has a capacity for 154 guests and is equipped with multiple Zodiac loading platforms, facilitating seamless and efficient off-ship exploration. It also offers expansive observation areas intended for exceptional wildlife viewing and enjoying scenic vistas. Onboard, the ship features dedicated learning and wellness spaces for guests.

The new Alaska program will incorporate significant time at Hubbard Glacier, North America’s largest tidewater glacier, providing excellent opportunities for Zodiac and kayak excursions. Additionally, the itineraries will include travel through the scenic Inside Passage, specifically via the Grenville and Princess Royal Channels. These new routes will be offered alongside the established marquee experiences in popular locations such as the Inian Islands, Misty Fjords, Endicott Arm, and Tracy Arm, ensuring a comprehensive Alaskan expedition experience.
