Mandarin Oriental is set to significantly broaden its operations in Egypt by incorporating two historic hotel properties and launching its inaugural luxury Nile cruise. This expansion is designed to create a comprehensive travel experience that connects Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. The initiative follows the previously announced reopening of the Mandarin Oriental Shepheard in Cairo, which is expected in 2027. By linking these locations, the group aims to offer a unified journey for international travelers seeking luxury accommodations along the Nile.

In Aswan, the group will take over the management of the Old Cataract hotel starting in May 2026. While the heritage portion of the building will remain operational, the Nile Wing is scheduled for extensive renovations. The entire property is slated to reopen as the Mandarin Oriental Old Cataract, Aswan in July 2027. This hotel will feature updated rooms, six dining options, and a signature spa, all positioned to overlook the Nile and the Temple of Khnum.
Similarly, the Winter Palace in Luxor will undergo a comprehensive restoration beginning in early 2026. It is scheduled to reopen in July 2027 as the Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace, Luxor. The restoration will focus on modernizing the guest rooms and facilities while preserving the historic character of the gardens and its proximity to the Temple of Luxor.
Complementing these land-based properties is the new Mandarin Oriental Nile Cruise. This vessel will offer various itineraries ranging from three to seven nights between Luxor and Aswan. It will provide suites, multiple dining venues, and wellness facilities, alongside educational excursions. These developments are being carried out in partnership with the Talaat Moustafa Group and the Garranah Group, focusing on maintaining cultural integrity and honoring the heritage of the region.
