In Progress

Getting inside cruise vacations we bring you in-depth reports from live events by actually sailing on the ships and experiencing the destinations you ask, dream and have questions about.  Follow along on our adventures as we share the experience every step of the way.  Before, during and after our travel events, we take you with us via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google+YouTube, Pinterest, Tumblr, Exposure, Flickr and an occasional print media effort from time to time. Most recently, we began contributing to new River Cruise Radio a new effort from the creator of #1 popular podcast Cruise Radio to add yet another dimension.

Once a trip is booked, we consider it In Progress and begin writing about it from planning to sailing.  Trips we’re thinking and/or dreaming about won’t be here.  Starting as far in advance as possible, we research every cruise line, even if it is one we are quite familiar with.  That effort brings a number of in progress posts, leading up to the sailing itself.

In June, we’ll be back with Viking River Cruises for the 15-day Grand European Tour, traveling from Budapest to Amsterdam.   We did this once before, a few summer’s ago and found it to be a perfect fit for our travel interests.

Follow along as we plan this trip.  See: Grand European Tour Planning Guide for more as we count down the days.

IN THE FALL

Viking River Cruises
Waterways Of The Tsars

In September, we travel again with Viking River Cruises, this time on a 13-day voyage that promises to reveal the real Russia as never before.  Sailing aboard Viking Akun, we’ll see the swirling onion domes and stout towers of Moscow’s Red Square. Share stories at the kitchen table of an Uglich family. Savor Russian caviar with your blini pancakes. Soak up the steam in a traditional banya in riverside Mandrogy village. Envision Peter the Great luxuriating in massive Peterhof Palace, then see how multiple families shared living space at a Soviet-era kommunalka.

The occasion for this sailing is the 20th anniversary of Viking River Cruises which began in Russia. We’ll sail from St Petersburg to Moscow on a 13-day cruise focusing exclusively on Russia, stopping at seven ports along the way, four of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
