- Emirates launched its first A350 service to London Gatwick on February 8
- The aircraft introduces premium economy seating to the Gatwick route for the first time
- Flight frequency to Gatwick has increased to a regular four daily departures
- The UK serves as Emirates’ second largest global market with 21 daily flights
Emirates reached a significant operational milestone on February 8, 2026, with the inaugural flight of its Airbus A350-900 to London Gatwick. This arrival marks the first time this specific aircraft type has serviced a London airport, following its initial UK debut in Edinburgh earlier in 2025. The deployment of the A350 coincides with Emirates expanding its Gatwick schedule to four daily departures, a frequency that has transitioned from an occasional occurrence to a permanent fixture in the airline’s network.

The introduction of the A350 brings a new cabin configuration to the Gatwick route, specifically debuting premium economy for passengers at this airport. The current 298-seat layout includes 32 business class, 28 premium economy, and 238 economy seats, with plans to shift to a 312-seat version in late March. This fleet update results in a temporary reduction of Airbus A380 “superjumbo” services to Gatwick, though the airline intends to return to three daily A380 flights by December 2026.
The United Kingdom remains one of the most critical markets for Emirates, trailing only India in total flight volume. The airline now operates up to 21 daily services across eight UK airports, including Heathrow, Manchester, and Birmingham. Officials from Emirates emphasized that Gatwick represents a key growth area, and the additional daily frequency is designed to provide better connectivity for both passenger and freight traffic. This strategic expansion ensures that London remains a central hub within the carrier’s global network while offering travelers more diverse aircraft experiences.
