Idaho’s travel and culinary sectors are experiencing significant national and international visibility throughout 2026. The James Beard Foundation recently recognized five Boise-area establishments and individuals as semifinalists for its annual awards. Nominations include three local chefs in the Mountain Region category, as well as honors for hospitality and new bar concepts. The results of these nominations will be finalized in June during a ceremony in Chicago.

On the cultural front, the Visit Idaho documentary The 3100 has achieved international status by being selected for the Paddling Film Festival World Tour. The film, which documents the life and lore of seven Idaho rivers, is one of only 22 selections for the 2026 tour. This recognition expands the reach of Idaho’s outdoor narratives to global audiences, complemented by a digital docuseries available for further exploration on the agency’s social media platforms.

State authorities are also promoting the Move250 Idaho initiative as part of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations. This program invites travelers to document 250 miles of movement, such as hiking, paddling, or driving, across the state’s diverse geography during the year. Complementing this movement-based initiative is a focus on Stanley, a remote town of approximately 100 residents positioned in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Stanley acts as a primary hub for travelers visiting Redfish Lake and the Salmon River.

The state’s summer calendar is further defined by a series of traditional Western events. A multi-city rodeo circuit, including the 25th anniversary of the Eagle Rodeo and the historic War Bonnet Round Up, offers consistent entertainment from June through August. These events are paired with the Travel With Care principles, which encourage responsible recreation. For winter travelers, this includes specific guidelines on slope visibility and obstruction avoidance to ensure public safety in high-traffic ski areas.
