  • Onboard Passenger Conditions: Travelers experienced nearly 36 hours without air conditioning and limited amenities before being moved to land-based accommodations.
  • Cancellation and Compensation: The subsequent voyage was cancelled to allow for repairs, with the cruise line providing a refund and credit package to impacted guests.

The Celebrity Infinity cruise ship experienced a significant technical failure in the early hours of February 15, 2026, while positioned near the port of Piraeus, Greece. According to reports from the Hellenic Coast Guard, the vessel suffered a loss of control attributed to a malfunction within its electrical distribution panels. The situation required the intervention of four tugboats, which successfully towed the ship to the safety of the port. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, and no environmental pollution was detected following the incident.

Witness accounts from passengers indicated that the power loss occurred around 3 a.m., followed by a ship-wide emergency alert. While the coast guard focused on the mechanical recovery, passengers reported a period of significant discomfort on board. Those remaining on the vessel described a lack of air conditioning and limited food services, though basic plumbing remained functional. Interior cabins were reportedly difficult to navigate due to a lack of emergency lighting in staterooms, and the absence of internet connectivity complicated travel arrangements for those affected.

In response to the malfunction, the Central Port Authority of Piraeus prohibited the Celebrity Infinity from departing until comprehensive repairs were certified. Consequently, Celebrity Cruises cancelled the subsequent sailing scheduled for February 16. The cruise line issued an apology, characterizing the event as a technical issue that was addressed by the onboard team. To compensate affected travelers, the company offered full refunds, 100% future cruise credits, and partial reimbursements for hotel stays and flight change fees. Despite these measures, some passengers reported logistical challenges regarding flight availability and out-of-pocket expenses for extended stays in Greece.
