The Miami HEAT, the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, and Carnival Corporation & plc have partnered to donate $1,000,000 to Direct Relief to support expected recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization focused on improving health in communities affected by emergencies, providing assistance without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay.

This generous contribution builds on a long-standing philanthropic relationship, as the three organizations have collectively donated nearly $17.2 million to Direct Relief since 2013. That prior support has funded responses to major crises including the crisis in Ukraine, numerous major hurricanes, and Typhoon Haiyan.

The immediate focus of the donation is providing urgently needed medical assistance to Jamaica. At the request of the Jamaican government, Direct Relief has prepared 100 field medic packs for deployment to front-line responders, along with a full inventory of essential medicines and supplies. These items include antibiotics, chronic disease medications, and personal protective equipment, aimed at delivering immediate relief and strengthening the local health system’s capacity to recover and withstand future storms. Leaders from the HEAT Group and Carnival Corporation expressed solidarity with the people of Jamaica, recognizing their deep connection to the island and the critical role this aid will play in the long road to rebuilding.
