Arundel Castle in West Sussex is set to open its 2026 events calendar with the return of the Easter Medieval Festival. Scheduled to take place over the Easter bank holiday weekend from Friday, April 3, to Sunday, April 5, the event will transform the castle’s lower lawns into a 12th-century encampment. The festival invites visitors to step back to the year 1189, centering its theme on the coronation of King Richard the Lionheart and a celebratory tournament hosted by the Earl of Arundel.

The three-day itinerary features a variety of immersive historical reenactments and displays. Guests can observe demonstrations of medieval combat, falconry, and archery, alongside live period music. Beyond spectating, the event offers hands-on opportunities for visitors to try archery and traditional crafts. Organizers state that all activities are included in the price of admission, aiming to provide an educational and entertaining experience for families and history enthusiasts alike.

To complement the historical atmosphere, a “Knights’ Table” will serve medieval-inspired food and beverages near the encampment. Visitors also have the option to dine at the castle’s permanent café, restaurant, and tea terrace, or to bring their own picnics to enjoy on the grounds. Castle Manager Andrew Lewis noted that the festival is designed to bring the medieval period to life through engaging and interactive programming.

Tickets are available for purchase online, with pricing set at £29 for adults, £13 for children, and £71 for a family ticket, while children under five enter for free. It is important to note that garden-only tickets are not valid for this event, and certain activities may have age or height restrictions.
