Mammoth Lakes Tourism has introduced an AI-powered chat feature named “Sierra” to assist travelers planning visits to the region. The AI leverages GuideGeek technology from Matador Network, using extensive data from Mammoth Lakes Tourism combined with over 1,000 external travel sources to generate personalized, real-time tips and itineraries in 50 languages.

Sierra is designed to provide quick and clear guidance for visitors, covering everything from skiing and hiking suggestions to updates on road conditions and local events. The AI helps travelers make informed, on-the-spot decisions, which significantly reduces the workload on the human visitor services staff. The AI’s ability to conduct detailed conversations before and during trips helps promote the destination’s wide range of activities, including its geological and Native American history, appealing to visitors year-round.
Travelers can easily access Sierra by messaging the @visitmammoth Instagram or Facebook accounts, or by clicking the chat icon on the VisitMammoth.com website, where the strongest engagement has been observed so far. By adopting this technology, Mammoth Lakes Tourism joins other destination marketing organizations (DMOs) in California and globally that are utilizing GuideGeek’s custom conversational AI tools to enhance the visitor experience.
