World Ocean Day: Costa Guardians Of The Sea Project Begins

  • New “Guardians of the Sea” Project Launched: Timed perfectly with World Ocean Day, the Costa Crociere Foundation is excitedly launching “Guardians of the Sea,” a fantastic new international environmental education project for children and teens (ages 6-17) across the entire Costa fleet!
  • Building on a Legacy of Success: This inspiring program is an expansion of the impactful “Guardians of the Coast” initiative, which has already educated over 100,000 Italian students about marine protection, now aiming to foster a global community of young ocean protectors.
  • Playful, Interactive, and Device-Free Learning: “Guardians of the Sea” offers a wonderfully engaging and inclusive experience, using hands-on activities, teamwork, and discovery – not electronic devices – to teach about marine biodiversity and its protection through fun workshops like “Beach Detectives,” “EcosySTEM,” and “Oceanolympic Games.”
  • Inspiring a Generation of Ocean Stewards: As a key part of the Costa Crociere Foundation’s significant commitment to environmental and social well-being, this project aims to reach approximately 120,000 young guests annually, instilling a deep love and respect for the sea and promoting pro-environmental choices for the future.

Get ready for an inspiring wave of ocean conservation education aboard Costa ships! Just in time for World Ocean Day on June 8, the Costa Crociere Foundation proudly presents “Guardians of the Sea,” an exciting new international environmental education project dedicated to young guests. This fantastic initiative is an evolution of the highly successful “Guardians of the Coast” program, which has already engaged over 100,000 Italian students and teachers in vital marine conservation awareness and data collection efforts.

“Guardians of the Sea” is set to make a global impact by being introduced across the entire Costa fleet, aiming to reach thousands of young travelers from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through engaging play, discovery, and teamwork, the project will foster a culture of respect and protection for our precious seas on a global scale. Sara Dotta of the Costa Crociere Foundation shared her enthusiasm, stating the goal is to elevate environmental education by “involving children and young people of all nationalities in an experience that combines fun, awareness and love for the sea,” using the universal language of play.

Developed with educational specialists La Fabbrica, the program is designed for children and teens aged 6 to 17. It offers an international, inclusive, and wonderfully interactive approach that encourages learning through ideas, physical engagement, and collaboration, steering clear of electronic devices. Initial thematic workshops like “Beach Detectives” (for ages 6-11), “EcosySTEM” (6-11), and “Oceanolympic Games” (12-17) are designed to spark curiosity, team spirit, and environmental awareness. These enriching activities will be integrated into Costa’s Squok Club and Teen Zone programs, which engage about 120,000 young guests annually, showcasing a strong commitment to educational and fun experiences for its youngest travelers. This project is a significant part of the Costa Crociere Foundation’s broad commitment to positive social and environmental impact.
