The future of modern ocean vacationing marked a major maritime achievement as Royal Caribbean’s fourth Icon-class mega-ship, Hero of the Seas, floated on water for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. Following time-honored maritime tradition commemorated by the firing of a ceremonial cannon, more than 90 million gallons of water flooded the drydock overnight. This allowed the colossal 250,800-gross-ton vessel to transition smoothly into the outfitting pier, where interior craftsmanship and venue construction will accelerate over the coming year.

Scheduled to make its grand debut in August 2027 from PortMiami, Hero of the Seas builds upon the global momentum of its sister ships Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, and Legend of the Seas. The vessel is engineered to deliver unmatched multi-generational vacations across eight vibrant onboard neighborhoods, featuring nine refreshing swimming pools and twenty-eight distinct dining venues. Fresh concepts setting this ship apart include the New Orleans-inspired Orleans Parish Supper Club, an expanded adult-only Hideaway retreat boasting the largest swim-up bar at sea, and the debut of the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse suite.

Following its maiden voyage, the ship will embark on year-round, seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with every departure including a marquee visit to Royal Caribbean’s private island destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas. In addition to record-setting family amenities, Hero of the Seas incorporates advanced environmental technology, powered by liquefied natural gas dual-fuel engines, shore-power grid connectivity, and energy-recovery systems designed to reduce emissions.
