Amadeus River Cruises recently celebrated the official christening of its newest vessel, the Amadeus Aurea, in Amsterdam. The ceremony, held on May 12, 2026, featured traditional maritime festivities, including a welcome reception in the Panorama Bar and Lounge followed by the shattering of a champagne bottle against the hull. The event was led by the company’s founders, Dr. Wolfgang and Mrs. Martina Lueftner, alongside their three daughters and the ship’s godmother, Kristie Keller. This vessel marks the 18th ship in the Amadeus fleet, which remains one of the youngest operating on European waterways with an average age of approximately three years.

The Amadeus Aurea represents a significant advancement in the company’s “new generation” of river ships, focusing heavily on environmental sustainability and luxury. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system designed to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution through high-performance filters. Additional eco-friendly features include solar panels for self-generated power, an advanced heat recovery system, and specially designed glass paneling to minimize heat loss and stabilize interior temperatures.
Onboard, the ship accommodates up to 158 passengers across four decks with a modern, sophisticated interior aesthetic. The layout includes 67 exterior cabins, most featuring drop-down panoramic windows, and 12 spacious suites that offer walk-out balconies. Public amenities include the Panorama Restaurant, the River Terrace, a heated outdoor swimming pool on the sun deck, and the Café Vienna patisserie. The ship is scheduled to navigate iconic European routes along the Rhine and Danube rivers, offering itineraries ranging from eight to fifteen days. This launch underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to blending luxury travel with responsible, innovative shipbuilding as it prepares for further fleet expansions in 2027 and 2028.
