Royal Caribbean is reaching a major milestone as its newest ship, Legend of the Seas, begins its rigorous sea trials in preparation for a July 2026 debut. As the third vessel in the revolutionary Icon Class, this ship recently departed the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland to undergo ten days of extensive technical testing on the open ocean. Over 2,000 specialists are currently on board to evaluate critical systems, including propulsion and navigation, ensuring that the vessel is ready to deliver a safe and spectacular experience for its future guests.

The debut of this ship will be particularly special as it marks the first time an Icon-class vessel will offer summer adventures in Europe. Beginning in July, travelers can explore the Western Mediterranean on weeklong itineraries departing from Barcelona and Rome. These voyages will feature eight distinct neighborhoods, providing a variety of environments from the family-focused Surfside to the glamorous Hollywoodland Supper Club. Following its inaugural European season, the ship will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to begin sailing Caribbean routes that include stops at the highly rated private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
In addition to its focus on entertainment and comfort, the new ship continues Royal Caribbean’s commitment to environmental stewardship. It will be the fourth ship in the fleet powered by liquefied natural gas, helping to advance the goal of introducing a net-zero cruise ship by 2035. With more than 40 ways to dine and be entertained, including the immersive Royal Railway and the record-breaking Category 6 waterpark, this vessel is poised to redefine the standard for modern family vacations. This successful phase of sea trials confirms that the project is on schedule to welcome its first passengers this summer.
