United Airlines has unveiled a transformative phase of its “United Next” growth strategy, marking one of the most significant fleet expansions in aviation history. By April 2028, the carrier expects to take delivery of more than 250 new aircraft, a volume that surpasses any other airline within a two-year window. This ambitious investment is designed to redefine the passenger experience across every cabin, introducing cutting-edge aircraft variants and premium amenities that bring widebody luxury to narrowbody routes. From the highly anticipated “Coastliner” to the redesigned CRJ450 regional jet, United is focusing on consistent, high-end service that caters to both domestic and international travelers.

A centerpiece of this announcement is the introduction of the Airbus A321neo Coastliner and the A321XLR. These narrowbody jets are engineered to provide a “widebody feel,” featuring the first all-aisle access lie-flat United Polaris seats on a single-aisle aircraft. The Coastliner will serve high-traffic transcontinental routes between Newark, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, offering domestic travelers access to the United Polaris lounge for the first time. Meanwhile, the A321XLR is set to replace older Boeing 757s on routes to Europe and South America, nearly doubling the number of premium seats available on those journeys.

United is also elevating its regional and international widebody offerings. The new CRJ450 reimagines regional travel by removing overhead bins in the United First cabin in favor of a spacious luggage closet, creating an airy, private-jet atmosphere. For international long-haul travelers, the Boeing 787-9 with the “Elevated” interior debuts on April 22, 2026, on the San Francisco to Singapore route. This aircraft introduces the United Polaris Studio, which offers suites 25% larger than standard Polaris seats, complete with privacy doors, 27-inch 4K OLED screens, and exclusive amenities like wine pairings and caviar service.

Beyond hardware, United is investing in technology and comfort for every passenger. By the end of 2027, the airline expects to offer free Starlink Wi-Fi to all MileagePlus members across its dual-cabin fleet. Every seat will eventually feature high-definition screens, with a library of award-winning content from partners like HBO Max and Apple TV. Enhanced food and beverage programs, including a partnership with “Chef’s Table,” ensure that the culinary experience matches the modernized surroundings. With 60,000 new employees hired since 2021 and a rigorous retrofit program underway, United is positioning itself as a global leader in premium, brand-loyal travel.
