  • The project aims to capture a portion of the significant annual travel spending attributed to the LGBTQ+ demographic

The Philly Pride Visitor Center celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday at 12th and Locust Streets, marking a significant development for LGBTQ+ tourism in Pennsylvania. Located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Gayborhood, the center is a collaborative effort between the Philadelphia Visitor Center, Visit Philadelphia, Visit PA, and the Philadelphia Gay News. It serves as a comprehensive hub for visitor services, offering specialized itinerary planning, ticketing for local attractions, and travel information focused on inclusive and affirming destinations throughout the city and the broader commonwealth.

In addition to its logistical services, the center functions as a cultural venue. It features a curated gift shop that highlights the work of local LGBTQ+ creators and artists, such as Nile Livingston and Symone Salib. The space also provides historical context regarding Philadelphia’s foundational role in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement, referencing landmark events like the 1965 Dewey’s Restaurant sit-in and the early Annual Reminders protests held at Independence Hall.

The timing of the opening is strategic, as Philadelphia prepares for a projected surge in tourism during the 2026 celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the United States. Tourism officials note that the LGBTQ+ demographic represents approximately $65 billion in annual travel spending across the country. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro attended the ceremony, emphasizing that the initiative is part of a state-wide commitment to remain a welcoming environment for the community.

The center is scheduled to operate from Thursday through Monday, between the hours of noon and 6 p.m., providing a dedicated space for travelers to engage with the city’s diverse heritage and modern offerings.
