Enjoy Your Favorite Drinks On The Beach

  • Norwegian Cruise Line will continue to honor shipboard drink packages at Great Stirrup Cay through March 2026.
  • A previously announced island-exclusive beverage package has been delayed and is not yet available for purchase.
  • Significant infrastructure upgrades, including a new pier and waterpark, are currently being integrated into the private island experience.
  • The “Free at Sea Plus” package remains a distinct tier offering premium benefits beyond basic island beverage access

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has recently adjusted its policy regarding beverage package inclusions on its private Bahamian island, Great Stirrup Cay. Originally, the cruise line had announced that its shipboard unlimited beverage packages would no longer be honored on the island starting March 1, 2026. However, following a period of guest frustration and logistical developments, NCL has officially notified booked passengers that these packages—including More at Sea, Free at Sea, and Free at Sea Plus—will continue to be valid for onshore drinks through the end of March 2026.

The initial plan to decouple shipboard packages from island service included the intended launch of a new, island-exclusive drink package. While this specialized package was reportedly scheduled for availability in early January, it has yet to appear on the company’s official website or booking platforms. This delay in the new product’s rollout likely contributed to the decision to extend the existing benefits for another month. Currently, there is no definitive word on whether the inclusion will be extended into April, leading some to speculate that the cruise line may be evaluating the policy on a month-to-month basis while gathering guest feedback.

The policy shift has created some confusion among passengers, particularly those who upgraded to the “Free at Sea Plus” tier. While that specific upgrade includes various other benefits such as premium spirits, high-speed Wi-Fi, and gratuities, guests are questioning the value proposition if the primary “Free at Sea” tier now covers island drinks for the immediate future. NCL has not yet clarified if refunds or credits will be issued for those who upgraded specifically for island access.

Beyond the administrative changes, Great Stirrup Cay is currently undergoing significant physical transformations. New features under construction include the 1.4-acre Great Life Lagoon, the Vibe Shore Club, and a large-scale waterpark. Accessibility has also been improved with a new pier that opened in late 2025, which aims to reduce the number of canceled port visits previously caused by the inability of tender boats to operate in rough swells. Industry analysts suggest that the final version of the island’s beverage policy and any potential new packages may not be fully unveiled until these infrastructure enhancements are completed in the summer of 2026.
