- The operational shift from weather-dependent tender boats to a permanent pier
- The successful docking of the Norwegian Getaway on December 28, 2025
- Current amenities including the Great Life Lagoon and swim-up bars
- Future developments such as the Great Tides waterpark and Vibe Shore Club
Norwegian Cruise Line has officially opened a new pier at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island destination located in the Bahamas. This infrastructure improvement marks a significant operational shift for the cruise line, as the Norwegian Getaway became the first vessel to successfully dock at the newly constructed facility on December 28, 2025.

Prior to this development, passengers were required to use tender boats to transfer from the ship to the island. This method was weather-dependent, often forcing the cancellation of scheduled stops when sea conditions were deemed too rough for safe tender operations. NCL Holdings CEO Harry Sommer has previously identified the island as a highly rated destination for guests, making reliable access a priority.
The pier construction is part of a broader investment in amenities at Great Stirrup Cay. Alongside the docking facility, the cruise line recently unveiled the Great Life Lagoon, a new pool area that became operational shortly before Christmas. This section features two swim-up bars, designated as the Reef Bar and the Waves Bar, as well as a specific area for children. The lagoon also offers various seating and relaxation options, including loungers, cabanas, and villas.
Looking ahead, the development plan includes further expansion of the pier to accommodate additional berths. Furthermore, guests can anticipate the opening of the Vibe Shore Club, intended for adults only, and the Great Tides waterpark. The waterpark, which will boast 19 slides, is projected to open in the summer of 2026. These enhancements aim to secure the island’s status as a premier stop for cruise passengers.
