Disney Fantasy is currently undergoing an extensive drydock refit at the Damen Shiprepair yard in Brest, France, a project scheduled for completion on October 28, 2025. The refit involves a significant technical overhaul to enhance the ship’s efficiency. A major component is the installation of a new, 180-ton bulbous bow with a tapered shape, which is designed to improve hydrodynamic performance and reduce fuel consumption. Furthermore, the ship’s hull is being treated with a new silicone-based coating to minimize friction and further boost efficiency. The scale of the work is substantial, involving approximately 4,000 personnel, including the shipyard teams, subcontractors, and crew, with logistical support requiring hundreds of trucks and shipping containers for materials.

Disney Cruise Line introduces a cruise industry innovation on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream — the shipboard water coaster, AquaDuck. Guests aboard the ship can get swept away on the exhilarating flume ride that features twists, turns, drops, acceleration and river rapids. Stretching 765 feet in length and spanning four decks in height, AquaDuck uses water blasters to propel guests around the the ship’s top deck. (Matt Stroshane, photographer)

In addition to the technical upgrades and class inspections, the vessel is receiving numerous internal renovations. This includes the replacement of roughly 40 kilometers of carpet throughout the ship. The most notable new guest feature is the introduction of a two-storey, 2,030-square-foot Tower Suite. Inspired by the classic Disney film Fantasia, this luxury accommodation is taking the place of the former Outlook Bar and Radio Studio, mirroring a similar addition on the Disney Dream. Other announced changes include the addition of Ramone’s Cantina, a Cars-themed Mexican-inspired quick-service venue, and the relocation of the Edge youth club, with a new Sorcerer Mickey-themed funnel suite taking over the club’s previous space.

Upon completion of the drydock, Disney Fantasy will cross the Atlantic, returning to its homeport of Port Canaveral in mid-November to resume its schedule of Caribbean and Bahamian cruises.
